About the event

This masterclass workshop is designed for those who experience breathlessness or have a diagnosed chronic lung condition (eg COPD). Practitioners Emily and Jane have led Singing for Lung Health in Cornwall since 2017 following Emily's training with the (then named) British Lung Foundation.

The workshop includes:

- Guided relaxation with therapeutic sound instruments

- Breathing exercises, aimed to bring awareness and cultivate greater control over the breath

- Learning techniques to use in daily life

- Voice exercises which help to build vocal strength and agility (for speaking as well as singing!)

- Fun and uplifting exercises which build congitive flexibility, physical strength and co-ordination and vocal strength

- Singing some short and simple songs selected for those living with breathlessness

The aim is to provide an experience which is both relaxing and uplifting as well as provide practical tips and techniques to take away. We want to support you to take control of your health and wellness!

Previous participants have seen a reduction in breathlessness, increased control of breath, increased physical ability and sense of well-being. We have seen people reduce reliance on medication and have even seen lung function tests improve!

Join us for the special one off masterclass which is supported by our friends and colleaugues at Canterbury Christchurch University and the Sidney de Haan Centre for Arts and Health.

The session will take place in St Greg's on Canterbury Christchurch University campus.
